Adjusting Your Universal Wheel Trims for a Secure Fit

Please note that our universal wheel trims are designed to fit a wide range of steel wheels. Due to differences in wheel design, age, condition, and manufacturing tolerances, the wheel trim may occasionally feel too loose or too tight when first fitted.

The retaining/expansion ring can be adjusted to achieve the correct fit.

Before making any adjustment, ensure that the wheel trim is correctly positioned on the steel wheel and that the valve-stem opening is aligned with the tyre valve.

If the wheel trim is too tight – compress the retaining ring

If the wheel trim is difficult to fit or feels excessively tight, the diameter of the retaining ring can be reduced.

As shown in Photo 4a, gently bend/compress the retaining ring inward at the adjustment point near the valve opening. This reduces the overall diameter of the ring and allows the wheel trim to fit more easily.

If the wheel trim is too loose – expand the retaining ring

If the wheel trim fits onto the wheel but feels loose or does not grip the steel wheel securely, the retaining ring needs to be increased in diameter.

As shown in Photo 4c, gently bend/expand the retaining ring outward at the adjustment point near the valve opening. This increases the tension of the ring against the inside of the steel wheel, giving the wheel trim a tighter and more secure fit.

Correct adjustment – normal position

Photo 4b shows the retaining ring in its normal position.

Make adjustments gradually and evenly. Only a small adjustment may be required to achieve the correct fit. After each adjustment, refit the wheel trim and check that it is seated evenly and securely around the entire wheel.

Important: The wheel trim should be firmly secured to the steel wheel without excessive force. Do not over-bend the retaining ring, as excessive adjustment may damage the ring or affect the fit of the wheel trim.

Quick reference:

Wheel trim fit Adjustment Photo
Too tight Compress/bend the retaining ring inward 4a
Correct fit No adjustment required 4b
Too loose Expand/bend the retaining ring outward 4c

Tip: Adjust the ring little by little rather than making a large bend in one go. The aim is for the wheel trim to sit firmly and evenly against the steel wheel, with no excessive movement.
